Basic Paddock Maintenance
If possible, divide the paddock into sections to allow areas to rest.
Clear horse droppings on a daily basis.
Try to prevent under-grazing as the grass will grow tall and become less attractive to graze. If this occurs 'top' the paddock down to 4" or take a hay cut.
Overgrazing will lead to poaching and weed invasion.
Maintain a good ground cover by harrowing, over-seeding and using fertiliser if appropriate. This work is normally carried out in spring or autumn.
Choose the right grass mixture to ensure it meets the grazing quality and quantity you require. You may require the seed mixture to be suitable for taking a hay cut.
Annual over-seeding will prevent invasion of weed grasses; maintain the sward quality and reduce poaching.
