BS ELS1 / CSS1 Buffer Strip & Beetle Bank

Managed as low intensity grassland and can be used to create new habitats. Cocksfoot is a clump forming grass creating areas for birds and mammals to nest.

BS ELS2 / CSS2 Buffer Strip & Field Corner

Managed as low intensity grassland. Contains fine-leaved grasses allowing wild flowers to establish creating a habitat for insects and other small mammals.

BS ELS3 / CSS3 Floristically Enhanced Buffer Strip

Managed as low intensity grassland, similar to ELS2, but includes several wild flowers as advised by Natural England. Cut August/Sept and March/April.

BS ELS4 / CSS4 Undersown Spring Cereals

grass/legume mixture undersown in the cereal crop can reduce the need for agrochemical inputs, increase the diversity of habitat and benefit farm wildlife.

BS ELS5 / CSS5 Finch & Corn Bunting Mixture (1 year)

Provides important food resources for farmland birds, especially in winter and early spring. The aim is to maximise the production of small seeds suitable as bird food in either annual or annual/biennial mixtures. This option is a rotational option and can be moved around the farm.

Boosts the availability of essential food sources for a range of nectar-feeding insects, butterflies and bumblebees. Premium mixture includes musk mallow and knapweed.

BumbleBird contains species that will provide food for many species of farmland birds. Also provides sources of pollen for insects such a butterflies.

BS ELS / CSS Two Year Sown Legume Fallow

This mixture will provide essential food sources for a range of nectar-feeding insects including butterflies and bumblebees. Farmland birds will benefit from the high levels of long term cover provided.

Rapid Root Forage Mixture

The Forage Rape element of this mixture ensures fast establishment. Stubble Turnips will provide energy and increase stock holding capacity.

  • Ideal for fattening stock and will provide grazing from July to December
  • Sow mid April - mid September
  • Suitable for Countryside Stewardship (CSS): AB13
  • Contains: 35% Stubble Turnip, 60% Forage Rape, 5% Kale 
  • Pack size 5kg untreated

White Mustard Seed

White Mustard is an ever popular choice for game cover plots. Very easy to establish and will grow rapidly providing cover until the first winter frosts. 
  • Can be sown alone or as a companion to other species.
  • Ideal for early cover, killed off by frost will create shelter for birds.
  • Quick growing - ideal for patching failed spring cover crops.
  • Popular as a green manure crop, fast growing and suppresses weeds.

  • Sowing rate: 15kg / ha. 

Winter Graze Forage Mixture

  • A mixture of palatable, proven varieties ideal for sowing after winter cereals.
  • Suitable for post Christmas grazing as it exhibits very good winter hardiness.
  • Suitable for Countryside Stewardship (CSS): AB13
  • Sow mid July/ September 
  • Contains: 35% Forage Rape; 60% Stubble turnip; 5% Kale

BS ELS / CSS Enhanced Maize Management Mixture

Quick establishing mixture that is designed to reduce the risk of soil erosion into water courses, prevent the leaching of key nutrients and reduce surface runoff.

  • Contains: 40% vetch, 40% barley, 10% phacelia, 10% mustard

Samson, Stubble Turnip

Samson can produce huge tankard shaped purple roots and trials have consistently shown high intake and weight gain.

 

  • Palatable to both sheep and cattle
  • Available treated with Thiram and Sepiret 
  • Suitable for Countryside Stewardship (CSS): AB13 
  • Sowing rate: 2kg/acre (drilled) or 3kg/acre (broadcast)
