Spring Flowering Bulbs

Spring flowering bulbs are planted in autumn and then flower the following spring.

The variety of spring bulb will determine the best time you should plant your spring bulbs. Usually most spring flower bulbs are planted in autumn, between September and November, but refer to our guide for individual species.

When planting spring flower bulbs:

1. Dig a hole that is deep and wide enough for your bulb - we recommend planting bulbs about 2 to 3 times their depth. 
2. Space your bulbs out so they are twice their width apart. Make sure your bulb is facing the right way up, typically it is with the pointed end facing up. 
3. Cover the bulbs with soil and gently pat the soil down to remove any air bubbles. 

Most spring flowering bulbs are planted when dormant in the colder months and then take a few months to come into bloom. Once the temperature begins to rise during spring, the bulbs will begin to sprout - usually a flowering plant will then appear in 15 to 30 days.
