Wildflower Bulbs 'In The Green' (pre-order in December) FAQs

About Wildflower Bulbs in the Green

Many of our spring wildflower bulbs are early flowerers providing a welcome, and necessary, source of food for pollinators. Varieties such as our BS Wild Garlic and BS Double Snowdrop are even marked as ‘Plants for Pollinators’ by the Royal Horticultural Society. This means they’ve been proven to provide a food source for pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, and help tackle their decline.

If you can’t decide just which bulbs are right for you, we have expertly curated collections.

All of our wildflower bulbs are sourced from very carefully selected and trusted growers so we can ensure their high quality. We're certain you'll be as delighted with the quality, fresh wildflower bulbs as we are. Our wildflower spring bulbs are available to order from December to February. For other times of the year, visit our range of autumn planted wildflower bulbs.

Why Choose Wildflower Bulbs in the Green?

Why Choose Wildflower Bulbs in the Green?

Wildflower bulbs in the green are a reliable and effective way to establish wildflowers with confidence. Supplied while actively growing, with leaves and roots already formed, they offer a strong start and dependable results.

There are plenty of reasons gardeners love planting bulbs this way:

  • Guaranteed to be alive and growing – you can see they’re healthy and vigorous when you plant them.

  • Higher success rates – because they’re lifted fresh, roots are strong and ready to establish immediately.

  • Quicker results – many will flower within a matter of weeks, adding instant colour to bare borders.

  • Easier to plant – you can see exactly where leaves and stems are, making positioning and spacing simple.

  • Perfect for naturalising – bulbs in the green spread beautifully through lawns, shady spots and woodland edges.

  • Loved by wildlife – they provide some of the earliest nectar for bees and pollinators each year.

How to Plant and Care for Wildflower Bulbs in the Green

How to Plant Bulbs in the Green

What to Expect — Bulbs in the green are supplied with leaves and roots already formed. The foliage may look soft or slightly yellowing after transit — this is normal and will recover once planted.

Handle gently — Bulbs in the green are living plants rather than dry bulbs, so treat them with care.

  1. Prepare your site first – Choose a spot with moist but well-drained soil. Loosen the ground and remove weeds before your bulbs arrive.
  2. Plant as soon as possible – Open the packaging immediately and plant out as soon as they arrive. Don’t let them dry out. Keep them cool and damp until planting.
  3. Plant at the right depth – Use a trowel or dibber to create holes deep enough to accommodate the roots comfortably, allowing the bulb to sit at its natural depth. Use the pale section of the stem as a guide (this shows how deep they were previously in the soil).
  4. Space in small clumps – Plant in groups of 3–5 bulbs, leaving 10–15cm between clumps for a natural look.
  5. Water well after planting – Water thoroughly to settle the soil and remove air pockets. Keep the area moist for the first few weeks while the bulbs establish.

Aftercare and Dividing

  • Once they’ve flowered, leave the foliage to die back naturally. The leaves are vital for photosynthesis, helping the bulbs store energy for next year’s display.
  • Over time, many species will multiply and form clumps. Every few years you can lift and divide bulbs in the green after flowering to prevent overcrowding and to spread them elsewhere in the garden.
