SFI IPM3 - Companion Crops

Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) IPM3, Companion Crops, requires a companion crop to be established, either to act as a trap crop for pests, suppress weeds, improve soil condition, manage nutrient efficiency or provide habitat for natural crop pest predators. IPM3 is a rotational action, and can therefore be carried out on the same area of land each year, or can be moved around the farm. The companion crop does not have to be present for the full growing period of the crop, as long as it is managed in a way that can reasonably be expected to achieve the action’s aim and its intended purpose. A companion crop can be grown alongside oilseed rape to protect the crop from pests, improve soil structure or improve nutrient efficiency.

  • Suitable for Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI): IPM3
  • Rapid establishment and high vigour
  • Creates a dense canopy to protect the oilseed rape plants
