The bright yellow carpets of winter aconites fix this flower as one of the delights of spring. The small, rich green foliage comes alive in January and February to give a stunning show. Perfect to plant alongside early-flowering snowdrops.

Part of the buttercup family, Anemone nemorosa have soft, star-like white flowers which can be seen carpeting the woodland floor before trees burst into leaf. Flowering in mid-spring, wood anemones are the perfect accompaniment to bluebells. Rhizomes will benefit from being soaked in water for a few hours before planting.

The wild daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) is a more delicate and graceful plant than its cultivated counterparts, also known as the  "Lent Lily". With a pale yellow perianth around a golden trumpet, the grey-green leaves of the wild daffodil are also distinctive.

The emblem of Wales! Tenby daffodils are lightly fragranced with nodding, yellow star-like blooms and a sign of the warmer weather to come. Particularly suited to growing on rocky ground, grasslands and in shadier areas, these smaller daffodils are perfect for naturalising.

Plant wild garlic "Ramsons" bulbs in the green to readily naturalise in your garden or landscape. Particularly suited to damp and shaded areas. The mild-flavoured, aromatic leaves are edible, perfect for salads and garnishing.

Fritillaria meleagris produces pretty, pendent, maroon/purple bells on slender stems, emerging in early spring. These delightful wildflowers were once widespread throughout the UK and are perfect for naturalising in a moist woodland edge or wildflower garden where the soil remains damp during spring.

Often flowering even slightly earlier than the single snowdrop, Flore Pleno are solitary dwarf perennials. With their nodding white and green-tipped heads, these honey-scented flowers are a must for that early spring colour.

Tulipa sylvestris is the only relative of the garden tulip found wild in Britain. Flowers in mid-spring with delicate yellow, lemon-scented flowers.

The giant snowdrop is another early-flowering variety from the snowdrop family. The nodding heads swaying in the winter breeze make a delightful bloom to brighten the gloomiest of days!

With dense spikes of blackish-blue flowers, Muscari neglectum naturalises readily to create vibrant blue carpets of colour. These long-lasting blooms prefer open, well-drained soil and are very easy to establish.

Hederifolium is pink with red eyes and silver spot leaves. Supplied as dry tubers, wild cyclamen extend the flowering season into the autumn.

The Summer Snowflake, also known as the Loddon Lily (from the River Loddon in Berkshire), has large white bell-like flowers with green-tipped petals. Appearing in late spring this large wildflower is best suited to damp, well-drained soils.

Star of Bethlehem produces pure white, star-shaped flowers appearing in early summer with multiple blooms appearing from each plant.

Nodding Star of Bethlehem is a pretty, perennial bulbous flower. Each stem holds multiple bell-shaped white flowers with a green stripe down each tepal. Thrives in moist and well-drained soils and flowers mid to late spring.

Christian Dior's favourite flower, Lily of the Valley is renowned for its unique sweet scent. Flowering late spring, the drooping, pure white bell-like flowers are well suited to damp woodland areas.
